About this journey

Some places preserve their past behind glass. In England and Scotland, it still shapes the streets, institutions and landscapes around you. Royal residences remain in use, university traditions continue beneath old stone façades, prehistoric monuments stand open to the sky, and Highland roads pass through scenery carrying stories far older than the journey itself.

Across nine days, London moves between the Thames, the Tower and the modern skyline before Windsor, Oxford and Stonehenge stretch the timeline far beyond the capital. The journey north leads to Edinburgh, where castle walls, royal chambers and the Old Town give the city its unmistakable character. Beyond it, Glencoe and Loch Ness carry the story into the Highlands, while Scotch whisky brings one final tradition firmly into the present.

Where Centuries Endure: London to the Highlands is Duniya Safari’s journey through a Britain where different ages remain remarkably close to the surface, from ancient stone and royal ceremony to mountain valleys and traditions still very much alive.

Itinerary

A carefully crafted journey, one unforgettable day at a time.

9 days2 cities
  1. Arrive in London, where your transfer from Heathrow takes you into a city that rarely separates old from new. Georgian terraces, Victorian façades and glass towers can occupy the same stretch of road, while red buses and black cabs move through streets whose names have survived generations of change.

The first evening stays unscripted: a walk through the neighbourhood, dinner somewhere nearby, perhaps coffee at a café table while London carries on outside. Old brick, polished shopfronts and the occasional church spire begin appearing almost casually between the newer city around them.

  2. Explore London's familiar landmarks before taking to the River Thames for a cruise through the heart of the capital. Later, rise above the river on the London Eye, where Westminster, bridges, church towers, and the modern skyline come together in one sweeping view.

Back at street level, continue along the South Bank, cross one of the bridges on foot or head towards Covent Garden for dinner. Barges, riverboats, and commuter traffic still move along the Thames beneath landmarks from entirely different ages of London.

  3. Enter the Tower of London, a fortress whose walls have witnessed royal lives, imprisonment, ceremony and conflict across centuries of English history. Towers, courtyards and battlements make the past unusually tangible here, with the modern city rising just beyond the perimeter.

Afterwards, stay by the river for a walk towards Tower Bridge or wander through nearby St Katharine Docks. Glass offices and busy roads now press close around the fortress, making those heavy stone walls appear even more improbable in the middle of present-day London.

  4. Travel beyond London for a full day through Windsor, Oxford and Stonehenge. Windsor carries the enduring presence of monarchy; Oxford unfolds through colleges, courtyards, and streets shaped by generations of scholarship; and Stonehenge reaches back to a Britain that predates both.

By late afternoon, the contrast is striking and needs little explanation: inhabited royal rooms, university lanes still filled with students, then prehistoric stones standing beneath an open sky. Return to London after moving through several versions of England in the space of a single day.

  5. Leave London by train and travel north to Edinburgh, watching the landscape change gradually before the Scottish capital comes into view. The mood shifts almost immediately on arrival, with darker stone, rising streets and the silhouette of the castle giving Edinburgh a character entirely its own.

Once settled, head towards the Royal Mile or wander through the Old Town as closes and narrow lanes disappear between larger streets. Stairways climb unexpectedly, steeples appear between rooftops, and the city seems to reveal itself vertically as much as along the road.

  6. Edinburgh unfolds through steep streets, dark stone and rising views before the route reaches Edinburgh Castle, set high on Castle Rock above the city. From the ramparts, the Old Town stretches along the ridge towards Holyrood, while the fortress itself rises directly from the volcanic rock beneath it.

Later, wander through the Grassmarket, Victoria Street or the lanes branching from the Royal Mile. At street level, Edinburgh softens into shopfronts, pubs, hidden passages and sudden views between buildings, all held together by the same dark stone that defines the skyline from afar.

  7. Leave Edinburgh for a full-day journey through Glencoe, the Scottish Highlands and Loch Ness. Buildings gradually disappear as the road enters broad valleys, dark lochs, and mountain country, with Glencoe offering some of the route’s most dramatic scenery.

At Loch Ness, the water runs long through the Great Glen beneath wooded slopes and open skies. Stories may have made the loch famous, but the quieter pleasure is simply watching the landscape stretch away from the road before the journey eventually turns back towards Edinburgh.

  8. Visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where royal apartments and historic rooms reveal another side of Edinburgh. Later, continue to the Scotch Whisky Experience, moving from palace interiors to one of Scotland’s most familiar traditions through its regions, styles and craft.

Spend the remaining hours around the Royal Mile, or head to Calton Hill for a wider view of the city. By then, ceremony and whisky have both appeared not as museum pieces, but as parts of Scotland that still occupy a place in the present.

  9. Your transfer takes you from the hotel to Edinburgh Airport for the journey home. Nine days have passed through riverbanks and fortress walls, royal residences and university streets, prehistoric stone, steep closes and Highland valleys.

Where Centuries Endure: London to the Highlands ends here with Duniya Safari. The route may be over, but Britain has left behind something wonderfully difficult to separate into past and present: places still lived in, crossed, climbed, guarded, studied and poured, much as they have been for generations.

How We’d Plan It

For travellers who want more than a glimpse of the Scottish Highlands, Inverness makes a great stop between London and Edinburgh. It changes the journey from a city-and-day-trip itinerary into something more immersive, with time to stay in the Highlands rather than simply visit them from the capital.

From Inverness, explore Culloden Battlefield and the prehistoric Clava Cairns, spend time around the River Ness and Inverness Castle viewpoint, or head towards Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness. With an additional day, the route can stretch further into the Highlands towards scenic glens, lochs and smaller Highland communities that are difficult to experience properly on a single excursion from Edinburgh.

We recommend 2 nights in Inverness for the extension. Since the standard itinerary already includes Loch Ness and the Highlands from Edinburgh, Duniya Safari can reshape that portion of the journey to avoid repetition and use the extra nights for a more varied Highland experience.

Our Greece vacation with Duniya Safari was absolutely remarkable! From the start, they were incredibly fast with travel recommendations and prompt in responding. A special shoutout to the visa team; their document clarity made the process seamless. We faced a major challenge when our initial Gulf Air tickets became dicey due to the geopolitical situation, but the team provided exceptional guidance and smoothly helped us rebook an alternative flight. The final itinerary was beautifully thought out, offering excellent coverage without feeling rushed. When minor hiccups arose during the trip, their support team was instantly available to help. We highly appreciate their dedication and look forward to our next travel adventure with them

If I go to Maldives, I will stay in a water villa. That was the wish. I would not go if I can't stay at least one night at the water villa. But when the price of the water villa was going beyond the affordability while doing the booking ourselves, several people suggested to book through the travel agency. Then I found Duniya Safari (DNS) Travel Agency from a Facebook friend. Recently, I visited Oblu Experience Ailafusi in Maldives through them. It was 3 Days Water Villa, All Inclusive Package. Our experience was so good. We enjoyed a lot. We have got full support from DNS team.
